You’re Toast Breakfast!

Forgive the punny title. I’m not sorry. But I am really into fun breakfast toast recipes. I’ve been a long time fan of avocado toast but I’ve been branching out lately in to the realm of goat cheese. So I’m planning to compile a list of recipes here (or at least ideas for toasts I can make) and attempt to try them all out!

Avocado Toast

  • Salad Toast – This is something I’ve made before. I slice half of an avocado and put it on the toast them top it with mixed greens or spinach and maybe some pumpkin seeds or walnuts
  • Salsa Egg – Spread mashed avocado then salsa (regular or fruit based) and top with a fried egg.
  • Regular Egg – I usually spread mashed avocado and top with a slice of whatever cheese is on hand then a fried egg on top which melts the cheese a little. Often I sprinkle salt and pumpkin seeds on top.
  • Everything Bagel – Cream cheese, avocado slices, and everything bagel seasoning

Goat Cheese or Ricotta Toast

  • Honey Walnut Toast – This can be warmed in the oven if you want but I usually don’t bother. I spread the bread with goat cheese and top with roughly chopped walnuts and drizzle with honey. Mmm Mmm good.
  • Ricotta Toast with Pears and Honey – Haven’t tried this one yet but it looks good. I might sub goat cheese just because it’s something I keep around more.
  • Strawberry and Edamame – Buzzfeed suggests peanut butter topped with strawberry slices and edamame then drizzled with balsalmic and sprinkled with sea salt. I’m not sure how I feel about the edamame but I’d be willing to try it out.
  • Mango – Either slices of fresh mozarella or either goat cheese or ricotta topped with thick slices of mango and lime zest and salt
  • Jammmm – The easiest and my go to: goat cheese and fruit jam. Could also use crushed fresh berries in place of jam.

Nut Butter Toast

  • Sliced Banana and Chia Seed – I feel like this is pretty self explanatory. Over almond or peanut butter
  • Ants on a Log – This is a brilliant idea. Thin sliced celery and raisins (or craisins) on peanut butter toast. Yes.
  • PB& Fruit – Sliced apples or strawberries or really anything.

Other Musings

  • Pumpkin – I’m surprised I couldn’t find any pumpkin based toasts online. I feel like either pumpkin puree along with the cheeses or avocado would but delicious in a savory way or pumpkin butter could pair with one of the cheeses as well. I’d rather go for a savory but I need to figure out what I want to mix the pumpkin with so it’s not too soggy.

Summer Plans 1.0

There are so many things I want to make this summer. But I also want to be unreasonably lazy. I have such first world problems.

So in the true spirit of millenialism I’m going to post about the things I want to do on here and maybe I will actually be led to do them (and maybe my sister will read this and make me do them). I’m going to pick between 10 and 20 things to start with and we’ll expand in future from there.

Popsicles!

Coffee Related Things

  • Hazelnut Iced Coffee or really any coldbrew and creamer combo. I’m planning to make coldbrew a staple this summer since I’m cutting back on Starbucks 😀
  • Vietnamese Iced Coffee I got some adorbs little espresso cups for my birthday and this would be a great way to use them
  • Coldbrew made with cinnamon

Fruit

Summer Type Foods

Summer Type Activities

  • Summer Concerts at the Rio Fridays and Saturdays all summer. We missed Sons of Pirates and that’s sad but we’ll find another good one
  • Go to the beach!

St. Patrick’s Day Noms

Somehow in the grand scheme of things I completely forgot that Friday is St. Patrick’s Day! Not to repeat the mess that was trying to make special Irish food last year I will now venture forth on the internet for delicious celebratory foodstuffs and share my findings with you.

For Breakfast

I’m thinking this quick and easy Green Pistachio Cake. On Friday’s I go into town early so I can volunteer so I usually don’t manage to eat a real breakfast and instead exist on coffee. This will be a welcome change. Since the recipe uses pre-made mixes it will also be easy to make since I’ll also have to prep dinner ahead of time and throw it in the crockpot.

For Dinner

Yummy scrumboes Guinness Coffee Irish Stew. I was thinking it would be easier to do a shepherd’s pie style deal but this recipe has beer AND coffee AND is slow cooker compatible. So it’s a winner in my book.

Food Must Be Made

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a menu online. It’s also been awhile since I’ve made a menu and actually stuck with it. Over a month ago I had my wisdom teeth removed and since then I’ve been a bit lazy in the kitchen. On the one hand I want to cook. On the other I want to lay around and eat soup dumplings and pet the puppy. First world problems amirite?

So this week we’re going to try to NOT be lazy and so here I am once again laying out a beautiful weekly menu!

CAFFEINATING

One thing I could definitely cut back on is trips to Starbucks. I do want to stop by Peets this week and try their honey macchiato so I think I’m going to try to make more coffee at home and buy less. I also need to get a straw for my to-go cup so I can make iced macchiatos at home.

The Metro I haven’t found a true recipe for this and I’m not always a fan of sparkling water but it seems simple and I’d like to try it.

Mexican Iced Mocha This is a cold brew recipe so I can prep ahead for a few days which will be nice. I like not having to put too much effort into my coffee because really, how does one have enough energy to make coffee before drinking coffee?

ACTUAL FOOD

Bourbon Beef Noodle Soup It’s currently freezing outside (which means nothing since the weather has been super bipolar lately) but I think a nice noodle soup sounds like a great plan. And any excuse to buy alcohol is even better. I bet I can find a good bourbon drink to go with this too ^_^.

Asparagus with Miso Butter and fish (whatever we have in the freezer). Looks classy and delicious and uses something in season.

Cashew Butter Paneer I absolutely love indian food and love that we can buy paneer now. We have some leftover from this weekend feeding the child-sister so I called dibs on making this.

Some Salad that contains Brussels Sprouts and Quinoa We should try to be healthy. We really should. So here’s to that.

ALCOHOLS

Persimmon Amaretto Sour if we feel like buying amaretto

Bourbon Apple Cider Cocktail if we don’t

DESSERTS

Pink Lemonade Pie In honor of Pi Day on Tuesday! I picked an easy one since  I won’t have alot of time between grocery store and pi day with work and stuff

BREAKFAST

Pumpkin Pie Oatmeal also in honor of Pi Day

Chunky Monkey Overnight Oats

Bucket List Take Two

Okay so I finished roughly half of the bucket list items from the last go round but I still think it’s a good idea and I’m willing to keep going with it!

1. Write More

I can start by actually updating and documenting the things I did from the last bucket list. There are a few things I either finished or adapted that I can write about! I maybe even know where the corroborating pictures ended up.

2. Read 30 more books

I’m going to up this one because I love to read and also I have quite a bit of downtime which would probably be better spent reading than playing on my phone and scrolling Facebook. I can start with Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman which I grabbed from 2nd and Charles a month or so ago and I can finish the Nightvale book. I’d like to buy the next Anne Bishop series since I can’t stop reading the ones I have but I’m pretty broke right now.

3. Take a Yoga Class or Two

I still want to take an aerial class or find a regular class to go to so I’m going to keep working on this. Maybe there will be one near North Potomac if they keep scheduling me down there instead of my other work location and I could go after work. We’ll see.

4. Use My Soldering Iron

We do in fact have solder so now I have no excuse. I need to keep working on relevant engineering skills and projects and not give up on my life goals

5. Pi Day Art Project

Last year Jessi and I created pi day art using wooden circles. Jessi did a sort of paint by numbers and I created a nail-string art masterpiece. This year I’d like to do something else cool. I was trying to figure out if there was some really cool display I could set up for the pi number chain for mathnasium but haven’t figured out a plausible practical exhibit yet.

6. Create a Light-up cosplay

There has to be at least one super cool light up cosplay I can create that’s not from Tron.

7. Go to New York

I haven’t been on vacation in entirely too long other than coming home and hanging out with people. I really want to go back to New York with either Jessi or Tiffany or some other friend and I think I could make it happen for a reasonable amount of money. If I plan well I can even eat all the delicious food things I wanted to when I was trying to plan this trip as a weekend for me and Jessi’s gaia wedding anniversary.

8. Repurpose my old jeans

I have 2 pairs of godawful expensive rockin republic jeans which have holes in the thigh region now. I haven’t thrown either pair away because I’m convinced I can repurpose them into a cool pair of punk pants like these:

Unique Trendy Punk Gothic Clothing Skirts Pants Shorts Mens Womens:

My main concern is that the tears are too high up and would cause the pants legs to roll and insert themselves into my thigh-crotch seam region. If this happens to be the case I can still save the legs and try a look like this one

Gothic Punk Clothing | Unique Trendy Punk Gothic Clothing Skirts Pants Shorts Mens Womens SKU ...:

I’d love to dress more punk ^_^.

9. Go Hiking

Maybe not a real hiking trail so much as a fun themed walk or a scavenger hunt type of thing since I’m not big on climbing mountains and I tend to lose my breath.

10. Go to a New Con

Maybe this will happen and maybe it won’t. I did Cosplayfest for new years so that was new and fun and I’d like to do at least one more new one! I wish the steampunk conventions came closer to our area.

11. Finish/start my Dr. Who Kimono

This was on my last bucket list as well. One day I’ll actually do this.

12. Make a Loki Helmet

http://timboscreations.blogspot.com/2012/10/loki-helmet.html

I’m going to follow the suggestions on this blog for making my very own Loki helmet for next time I dress up as Loki. It needs to be done when I can actually leave things outside without them freezing or melting so this one will need to wait for spring.

13. Make a Glow in the dark Dress/Skirt

http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/iush/?srp=6&cpg=cj&ref=&CJURL=&AID=11555940&PID=7659223&CJID=4400298

Like this fancy shmancy dress from Think Geek.

14. Put Together my Synth Kit

that I bought from Spark fun like a million years ago.

15. Make a song

I really want to learn how to make music and I got a cool music editing software thing for christmas this year as well as my keyboard from last year that I still need to learn how to play.

16. Make more art

I think last year my resolution was to make one project a week. I either made art or baked some sort of food each week for the first few weeks and then I kind of fell off that wagon. But I do want to paint more and learn different art techniques and be more creative overall.

17. Visit 3 New Restaraunts

I love food.

18. Visit a New Museum

Not hard since I live near D.C. and there are like a million museums there.

19. Send Valentine’s Cards

I won’t go through as much of an ordeal as I did with Christmas Cards (I’m still sending them out atm) but I like sending out card and I think if I start sooner than later I’ll actually get V-Day cards out this year.

20. Make a New Cosplay

I still need to finish Maz and I kind of want to make a Yang from RWBY costume if Jessi wants to be Ruby.

21. Make the button holder clippy things

I have these really fun clip-on straps that came from a Tripp skirt from awhile ago that I used to use as a way to display all of the cool button pins I’ve acquired. I lost those but I’d like to make more since I get pins from anime conventions now.

22. Cook a whole crab

Maybe I’ll use this cool indian recipe and also have an excuse to buy curry leaves and stuff. I feel like I’ll make alot of weird sounds I’m sure but I think it would be fun.

23. Take a Class

Even if I don’t manage to take a legit class maybe I’ll be able to do one of Brit.Cos online classes or something.

24. Keep making bread things

Pretzels, biscuits, and loaves of bread. My enemies in the kitchen. I will conquer them.

25. Make Resin Jewelry

From Jan/Feb 2013 Cloth Paper Scissors, but check out new book by Heidi Boyd - Exploring Resin Jewelry Use ICE resin or Little Windows resin is recommendation - easy to use low odor formulas. Protect porous inclusions with sealer (Mod Podge works):

Sprinkles Resin Bangles – Oh My! OK I want to do this but I need more info on how to pour the resin well:

Resin Real Fruit Jewelry- Detailed tutorial about a DIY dehydrated fruit necklace pendant! This would make an AMAZING end of the year teacher present! Sells the necklaces on her etsy site too:

Just a few examples of really cool resin jewelry I could try. I also want to try to make the bangles with the pencils inside using the mathnasium pencils

26. Learn about crystal healing

I really want to learn this for reasons

27. Make perfume

I really want to try to learn how to make the Pi perfume I got from Sephora-just maybe a little more feminine since that’s technically a man’s scent. However I need to start collection the essential oils since there are quite a few.

28. Keep Using Sneaky Cards

I bought Sneaky Cards at AMA last summer and haven’t touched them since then. I need to get on that.

29. Visit Baltimore

I’ll have to since Liz is getting a job there but I want to go do fun things alot!

30. Bake something magical

Bucket List #15: Make Paprikash

About half a week ago I accomplished this! I don’t promise I was super authentic because I used chicken breast meat instead of chicken thighs but I was kinda confused about when you’re supposed to take the bones out when you’re using bone-in chicken? If the meat falls off the bones (which it might because it stews for a bit in this recipe) do you fish the bones out? Or does that not happen and you pull the meat off the bones while you eat? Because that seems rather messy with a chicken with this much sauce. So I used breast meat and chopped it into strips and followed this lovely recipe. And it was delicious!

Also during the time I was browsing the internet for that recipe I found a few other Hungarian recipes I thought I’d try out so I also made *drumroll*

Hungarian Cheese Biscuits

Recipe found here. They are the cutest tiny things ever and they taste kind of like goldfish crackers in biscuit form. I’ve proceeded to snack on them all week for breakfast and dinner.

Gerbeaud Cake

No I can’t pronounce it but it is tasty. This lovely pastry looks kind of like baklava but without all the flaky layers of puff pastry. I don’t promise I didn’t kill the yeast in the dough (I actually think i probably did) but it ended up tasting a bit like a pie crust with all the yummy fillings in it. I also used storebought apricot jam but we can’t all be perfect.

Jaegerschnitzel

This is for dinner tonight so I don’t actually know how it will turn out yet. Fingers crossed!

I need to get on a roll to finish some more of these goals but I’ve been soooo sleepy lately and on top of that a bit homesick and nostalgic this week so I haven’t gotten the most things done. I will try to do better!

My Bucket List

So Adult Lyfe seems to pass sooooooo quickly lately. It’s probably just because I’m doing vaguely the same thing every week and with the exception of things like holidays and special events the days just kind of melt together. And even busy weeks form into a haze of busyness. Also I’ve felt very forgetful lately which is probably from not really exercising my brain in any way except multitasking. So I decided awhile ago that to make sure I don’t get stuck in this haze of part-time work and being an adult that I was going to make a bucket list of things I want to do. Originally it was for a whole year (like school year not fiscal year) but for right now I want to pick 40 things to get done before the end of the fiscal year.  I’m going to assign myself missions video-game style because stuff like that seems to motivate me more than the knowledge that I need to enrich my life. *shakes head* Millenials.

1. Take a Class of some sort

I miss school. Also I miss having friends. I’ve been looking at the non-credit courses at Montgomery College because I live near there now and I’m too poor to afford a credited course. I might be able to afford it if I had changed my residency to Maryland when I moved here, but my car wouldn’t pass inspection in Maryland and I also refuse to commit to being here long term until I find a full time job. But I’m looking at the Fab Lab courses which would give me some things to put on my resume and also be kinda fun and training for my dream job (becoming Tim who is the resident engineer at the Smithsonian Spark!Lab).

I also might see if I can find an Italian or ASL class. Both are things I want to learn and my sister and I are actively pursuing Italian on Duolingo and she’s taking a class at VCU this year and I don’t want to be left behind. Also with Duolingo I feel like I’m only learning to read Italian not speak it.

2. Read 20 Books

I like to read. This is not an unreasonable amount of books assuming the Rockville Library is legit.

3. Take the GRE

I really need to start studying for this. Most of the college deadlines are Januaryish I think (actually maybe later for grad school) but I should get on this anyways

4. Go to a Zombie Crawl

I did the Cary Street Zombie Crawl a couple of years ago with Jessi and Graham and it was loads of fun and I want to go again!

5. Participate in Nanowrimo

When I was younger I made a valiant effort at Nanowrimo and didn’t quite make it. During college we would start and fizzle pretty quickly. But not this year! Coffee and chocochip eggos galore.

6. Take an interesting Yoga class

Like Aerial yoga or something! I keep seeing workshop classes advertised in Rockville and I wanna do it!

7. Make 4 Youtube videos

8. Use my Soldering Iron

9. Make a Loki Helmet

10. Bake a Fancy Christmas Cake

11. Pet a Kiwi

The bird, not the fruit. Although I guess someone from New Zealand will do in a pinch. The Smithsonian Zoo has a time where you can come in super early on certain days and pet a baby kiwi!

12. Start/Finish my Dr. Who Kimono Dress

13. 2 New Cosplays

14. Make A Glow-in-the-Dark Dress/Skirt

Like this fancy shmancy dress from ThinkGeek. I’m poor and not going to buy this but I could make my own!

15. Make Paprikash

I really just like that word >_<

16. Apply to work as Santa’s Elf

I tried to do this my last year of college but applied too late. I think I need to start applying now to make this work.

17. Go to a corn maze

I did a pretty cool Paintball Zombie thing last year but I still want to go to a giant corn maze and wander through it.

18. Finish a Project

I have a brown skirt I’m halfway through sewing, a half dissected laptop, and a whole bunch of aluminum cans hanging out waiting for some attention.

19. Make Apple Wine

I bought the chemicals to make this a couple of years ago and never got around to it. But I’ve made Grape Wine, Blackberry Wine, and Dandelion Wine before so I can add this to my repertoire.

20. Put Together My Synth Kit

that I bought from Spark Fun last year on sale. Bonus: make music with it.

21. Use my Watercolor Pencils more

I’ve played with them for a WTNV picture and a pretty snazzy Jellyfish but I’d like some more underwater creatures.

22. Make an Adafruit project

Similar to the synth kit goal, except I’d like to do more with wearable electronics.

23. Christmas Cross-Stitch

I have dreams of cross-stitching everyone’s Christmas gifts. I probs should start sooner than later.

24. Calligraphy

I used to be decently good at Calligraphy when I was younger (despite my atrocious handwriting). When we went to the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Book Release we bought some snazzy quills that I would like to use!

25. Make a Christmas Card

Pentatonix Style. With Christmas Sweaters and Body Glitter and Face Paint.

26. Make Fancy Raviolis

I have pinned like nine million pasta recipes since buying a pasta press last year but I’ve only used it twice. I want to make fancy pumpkin or sweet potato raviolis this fall!

27. Visit 3 New Coffee Shops

I love local coffee shops and new places but I keep getting sucked into Starbucks and that needs to stop! There are a couple of bakery/coffee places I have pegged for a visit but I’m sure there are even more in DC that I haven’t stumbled upon yet.

28. Send 7 Picture Postcards

I joined a site called Touchnote during GISHWES this year so I could send Picture Postcards to William Shatner (cuz reasons) and I have 7 cards left on my account that need to be used.

29. Go to Rocky Horror at least once!

I miss going to Rocky Horror and I have no hope of going to see it in DC until the metro starts running past midnight again. And even then it might be pushing it depending how long the intro games run. But I wanna go again! And apparently they’re showing it every weekend of October at the Bow Tie in Richmond.

30. Make Pumpkin Pie from Scratch

I’ve never actually done this-I’ve always used canned pumpkin. But little pumpkins are so cute and I want to eat them!

31. Go Ice Skating

No excuses since the Ice Rink at Rockville Town Center is literally on my way to work this year. All I have to do is wake up and get my butt down there and have fun! I love Ice Skating and wanted to go last year but never quite had the moxie.

32. See Tiffany

That’s always a goal I have every day ever

33. Carve a Pumpkin

Something I do almost every year but didn’t do last year.

34. Learn to (reliably) Make Biscuits from Scratch

I made some bomb pumpkin biscuits last year but there’s a bread curse on my family that causes anything involving yeast to be hit or miss.

35. Go to a Theme Park

I miss rollercoasters. Sadly, Graham doesn’t like them so I have to find another friend to go with me.

36. Pick another book for Book Club

We recently started a Book Club with our Father for the sake of being Good Children. I guess we should keep it going and it will help me to keep reading!

37. Make/Drink Hot Buttered Rum

It just sounds like a good idea

38. Attempt Yeasted Donuts

We’ve only done cake donuts so far but we can bake yeasted donuts as well if we try hard enough I think.

39. Go to a MeetUp

I signed up for a site called MeetUp which is all about meeting Like Minded People but so far I’ve failed to go to a single event. We planned to go to a cannon shooting that my Pirate MeetUp Group talked about but then it rained buckets and was canceled and on the day of the Pirate Festival I got my hours mixed up and had to work .Sad Life.

40. Blog More

I purposefully saved this for the end so I can be stereotypical and cliche. I don’t usually have the time to investigate topics thoroughly enough to blog about them anymore because I don’t sit around in coffee shops anymore. I did remember to come back and finish this one (although I really should be working) and I’d like to keep going with this momentum and do more of this. I still need to fill in details for a couple of these items but thinking of 40 things was a struggle in itself and took a long time.

Will (hopefully) keep you updated!
